I installed ethereal through solaris 9 companion CD.

I also installed libcab-0.8.3 and tcpdump.

But interface doesn’t show up.

I followed the step described in FAQs.

I don’t know why interface doesn’t show up.

By the way I don’t know the name of the interface.

What does "ifconfig -a" print? It should show all the interfaces on the machine, although not all of them will be available ("lo0" or "lo" - whatever the loopback interface is on Solaris, probably "lo0" - won't be available, as Solaris doesn't support capturing traffic on the loopback interface).

What happens if you run Ethereal as root?
