Removing
/usr/local/lib/ethereal/plugins/0.10.10
resolved the problem.
So you can not have the latest released version and the svn version
installed on one system...
Just an idea: Could we increment the version number in the svn
right after releasing a version. This would allow me to have
0.10.10 version installed and the svn version which loads plugins
of the 0.10.11 directory.

Hi All,
I get the same:
[PowerBook17:~/Documents/trunk] tuexen% ./ethereal
Unhandled exception ("proto.c:2766: failed assertion "*ptr->p_id == -1
|| *ptr->p_id == 0"", group=1, code=4)
Abort
on Mac OS X. I did a
make clean
./autogen.sh
./configure
make
but no change.
I also deleted my ~/.ethereal directory.
Any ideas?
Best regards

I think my XP machine is alright. Lucky for me, I still have the
copy of old stuff ( the running source). I like to do svn update
sometimes, but then the source that I got from svn update won't work
for me :(
It works here, no XP though.
You can try to reboot (for flushing the cache) .
And if it still broken make clean, make (make clean in
epan/dissectors should be enough).
