Hi List!
As there seemed to be some trouble with the byte view notebook tabs, I had a short look what can be done by GTK against this. 

Found two things and "enabled" it:

-make notebook tabs scrollable, if not all fits into the pane
-enable a popup menu on the notebook tabs, with the tab labels, so a specific tab can be accessed much faster if lot's of tabs available
