It look as if it's something that shows up in your environment but not mine; I tried it with both the current CVS version and a freshly-built 0.9.16 tarball, built on Mac OS X 10.3 with GLib 1.2.10 and GTK+ 1.2.10 9also built from source), and it got the "G" in both cases.
