Probably zlib 1.1.4:

Whoever produced the HP-UX 11.00 packages for Ethereal apparently

	1) built it with a shared version of zlib

and

	2) didn't bother to add zlib to the list of dependencies on the
	   page for Ethereal.

(Whoever produced the packages is *not* the person listed as "Author:" -
the "Author" entry on the page for Ethereal

	1) has a very old e-mail address for Gilbert

and

	2) should, if it lists any single person as the author, list
	   Gerald Combs instead.

It also has an out-of-date URL for the home page.)
