I understand the issue of slow starts when one cannot resolve names. I have solved the problem by making Windows and Linux shortcuts that have the selected options. I personally always start with display in real time set. (I use -n -S)

Greg, while this may look  ok at first glance, I'm a fan of orthogonal
command line options (which we don't have but I don't want to make things
worse), so changing the default behaviour depending on whether we are
doing one thing or another is not a good idea.
