I think this is OK. I don't think there will ever be a version 1.40 (or
if there is, we can fix it when this comes up).
I'll need to redo this whole stuff anyway, because there are many automake
1.4 systems out there developing on these systems once gtk2
is in is currently not possible. So you can either fix this now or wait
for me to replace the whole thing by something that still works with 1.4
(I intend to copy only the required files from aclocal-fallback/ into
let's say aclocal-tmp/ and include acolocal-tmp/.

PS: There have been two reports that the configure from the 0.9.6
tarball didn't find net/bpf.h. After recreating it or using one that
I created with autoconf 2.53 and automake 1.6 things worked. Is it
possible for you to do the "make dist" on a more modern system?

I found out that "pro" means "instead of" (as in proconsul). Now I know
what proactive means.
