That's odd, because I've been able to successfully run autoconf 2.13
with the Ethereal configure.in on:

	Solaris 2.{5.1,6,7,8} (Solaris 7 on x86, others on SPARC)

	FreeBSD 3.4 (on x86)

	assorted versions of Linux (on x86)

without that problem.

So there's something more complicated happening here.
