Actually, the "afp.afp_verbose" preference doesn't affect the protocol
tree, it affects the Info column in the protocol *summary*.

Is there any reason why it's a preference, rather than having the
disssector *always* put the error code (if there's an error) into the
Info column?

Not really. It's more a place holder before doing read,write and so on.
