What's happening here might be one of

	1) an automake 1.5 bug

or

	2) an incompatibility between automake 1.5 and earlier versions.

There has been at least one bug in automake that causes problems with
Ethereal:

which was also a bug in the handling of _DEPENDENCIES settings; it looks
like a different bug, but perhaps there's more than one problem with
that code.

Try using the current CVS version of automake.
