I'd do it as externel helper applications instead of plugins though - doing
it with plugins forces the ethereal analysis process itself to have all the
privileges and capabilities that the capture tool does, which is excessive.

Although I'd guess that you could implement captures as plugins first, and
then provide a plugin that would capture using an external helper.
