You should probably do so on a machine with libtool 1.3.4, not libtool
1.4, installed.  1.3.4 might not have the MacOS X support that I think
1.4 does, but 1.3.4 appears to lack the rather severe bug that 1.4 has
that causes programs that use it not to build on some platforms (Solaris
and at least some Linux distributions, for example):
