Hi,
I am looking further into adding RMON capture capabilities to the wiretap
code, and have done some investigation.
The RMON filter and capture MIBS seem to require very low-level
specifications, and I think that the CMU SNMP library is the way to go. My
big problem is that I do not have access to an RMON capable switch, but
that can be handled in a couple of ways:
- beg, borrow, or steal a switch
- implement an agent that returns a capture file by reading it via
wiretap. NTOP has an agent that will help me see how to code some
of it.
The big problem seems to be example code that I can leverage from, rather
than learning all the problems myself :-)
However, something that would help a lot is having a trace of a management
app talking to an RMON agent and setting up a trace and retrieving it.
Is anyone in a position to gather such a trace and mail it to me?
Regards
