This is a bug in GTK+ 1.2.x, where 3 < x <= 6.

The patch for GTK+ is at

If GTK+-1.2.7 is delayed, perhaps we should bundle a patched
GtkText with Ethereal. And rename our GtkText and GtkCList widgets
to avoid the AIX name-clashing problem.
