Here's an interesting concept.

A sniffer that doesn't require root privileges because it's
acting as a packet redirector, and sniffs only the packets
that goes through it. This could make sense for application
developers who need to look at the payload of their TCP or UDP
packets, but don't have root access on their machine or on any
machine on the LAN.
